Johnny and Jaalene are Mexican-American singers, songwriters, and actors from Anaheim. The two artists play a combination of old soul and rock n’ roll.
Though only 19, Johnny Ramos has a pedigree that many musicians would covet. His father, Kid Ramos, is a local blues legend, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the younger Ramos is as talented as his old man. After his father was diagnosed with cancer when he was 14, Ramos picked guitar more intently and got into punk music in the process.
As for his counterpart, the 16-year-old Jaalene Deleon has been singing in her church choir for years, so it ultimately made sense that they decided to join forces and form a band in 2017 at the behest of Kid Ramos, who introduced her to rockabilly as opposed to the traditional music she’d performing before.
That self-titled album, released in September, came out on Rip Cat Records and features Kid Ramos (who is also on the label), Tommy Harkenrider (Memphis Kings), and Social Distortion’s bassist Brent Harding.Johnny and Jaalene are Mexican-American singers, songwriters, and actors.
Both from Anaheim, California, the two musicians play a combination of old soul and rock n’ roll. They met at church in 2010, but only started collaborating in mid 2017.
More recently, after finishing up Jaalene’s run of Citrus college’s The Wiz, and Johnny’s run in MTOC’s Mary Poppins, the two headed off to Senigallia, Italy for the 2019 Summer Jamboree.
They had a ball, playing their own set, singing with Kid Ramos, and even sitting in with a 22-piece orchestra.
The sky is the limit for these two talented entertainers, and this is a good chance to see them up close and personal at Campus JAX outdoor dinner theater.
