Join James Intveld plus the Moontones and Abby Girl & the Real Deal as we combine jazz, blues and country to create Hillbilly Jazz II !
In the 1930s, Bob Wills and others combined jazz with country and bluegrass. Then, in the 1950s and early '60s, jazz and pre-rock pop influenced country stars like Patsy Cline and Willie Nelson as they drew on jazz, Western swing, blues, and country for inspiration. The love of improvisation is one thing that players in these genres have in common.
Ameripolitan Award-winner James Intveld melds honky tonk, rockabilly and swing into a compelling, danceable mix that has earned him thousands of followers over the past few decades. His musicians are always top-notch, and his musical arrangements are addictive.
The Moontones specialize in swinging dance tunes, with an array of styles covering jump blues, jazz standards and jive. They are a big band with horns and a female vocalist whose brassy presence adds to their unique, masterful style.
Abby Girl & the Real Deal performs lively, soulful renditions of early R'n'B, blues, gospel, & roots rock rarities. Abby has been nominated as a 2019 Ameripolitan Rockabilly Female.
Taken altogether, this lineup of rockabilly, blues, honky tonk and big band creates an afternoon of Hillbilly Jazz for a Sunday Soiree at Original Mike's in Santa Ana's Art District from 1-5 pm.
As it happens a few days before Halloween, costumes are encouraged, but not mandatory.
Come out to dance, dine and drink on a swingin' Sunday afternoon!
