Escape to Tiki Island w/ Charles Phoenix & Jason Lee

Escape to Tiki Island, a slice of paradise in the newly renovated Yost Theater in beautiful downtown Santa Ana.

This 1912 vintage theater has seen many different uses in its 100+ years, but this tiki-flavored show will make it totally erupt!

Ambassador of Americana Charles Phoenix will share the large stage with Jason Lee & the Black Tides Orchestra, making this a must-see event for tiki-philes in Southern California

Charles Phoenix is a showman, tour guide, food crafter, and author. He is known for his live comedy slide show performances, madcap Test Kitchen videos, “field trip” tours, and colorful coffee table books, all celebrating classic and kitschy American life and style. The immense Hi-Def screen at the Yost will showcase Charles' slides in a crisp and compelling way you will adore!

On TV, Charles has appeared as a judge on Food Network’s Cake Wars: Christmas. He’s also guested on Storage Wars, Jay Leno’s Garage, Conan, and Martha Stewart, and is often heard on NPR.

The Los Angeles Times says, “Call him the King of Retro,” and LA Weekly anointed him “the Kodachrome King” in 1998.

CHARLES’ slide show performances are supercharged, laugh-out-loud celebrations of retro American pop culture. Fans from coast to coast enjoy his spirited story telling, gracious wit and sharp eye for oddball detail. He covers a dizzying array of subjects and themes, projecting both vintage Kodachrome images and contemporary photos documenting his retro road trip discoveries. No two shows are ever the same.

Jason Lee & the Black Tides Orchestra

Jason Lee is one of San Diego's top surf based guitar players. He fronts both the R.I.P. Tides and the Black Tides Orchestra.

His band, Jason Lee and the R.I.P. tides has gained increased notoriety in recent years playing the premier west coast tiki subculture events, such as Tiki Oasis, Taboo, and Tiki Highway. In 2012 the band was signed to Dionysus Records.

Lee's album Monsters and Mai Tais, released in December 2016, features players from both the R.I.P. Tides and the Black Tides.

Lee has also composed scores for TV networks, including A&E, Discovery, and Spike. “I’ve done everything from Shark Week to Duck Dynasty,” he says.

With his Black Tides Orchestra, Jason brings a much more sophisticated sound to the fore, featuring some serious musicians and some seriously original music covering exotica, surf and rock with a large orchestra format.

This is one show you will not want to miss!
